Treatment

Your doctor will work with you to figure out what medication(s) is right for you and in what dose.In addition to medicine, your doctor will likely reccomend pyschotherapy which is intened to help persons with bipolar to manage their illness. Such psychotherapies are:
  • psycho-education
  • cognitive therapy
  • family focused therapy
  • social rhythm therapy
  • interpersonal therapy
Children who have exhibited early or subtle symptoms of bipolar disorder have been shown to benefit from family focused therapy. Research shows a link that this therapy done when they are young may help to prevent them from developing full blown bipolar when they are adults.

Medications:
  • Antipsychotics
  • Antidepressants
  • Anticonvulsants
Physical activity has been shown to help improve mental clarity with bipolar patients and help to stabilize their mood. Be sure to check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.

Getting enough sleep is an important part of managing your mood, so be sure to get enough sleep at night. If you’re having difficulty sleeping at night, talk to your doctor about what you can do.
